FA16-PROJECT13-WEEK 7

The game I am constructing is called Ice Cream land. This game is to help children with speech delays, pronounce words better. The object of this game is to get a child to remember words with the association of colors. For example, if you have a red card with a red apple the child then would associate red with apple. The game is also made for the child to be encouraged to say the name of the object correctly, if not they will lose a turn. With this game I am hoping that having fun while learning will help the child learn. I also would like to test this game having a child that is perfectly normal play with the child who has speech delays.

The reason I want to test the subjects this way, is because i would like to see if the child who has speech delays, learns from the child who doesn’t. With children I think reinforcement is important, but i feel like if a child is playing with another child while having fun, the experience is very different then an adult sitting there trying to teach them the words .  When children play with each other they feed off of one and another, especially if the child that needs the help is younger. They always want to do what the older children are doing, so by playing with an older child the experience becomes different. Instead of you trying to make them understand, they will have fun playing and learning from another child

The game is made so that there is reinforcing learning, throughout the game, the child is constantly learning words and repeating them even if it’s not their turn, they will hear another child pronounce the word and may also repeat it with the child. This game is more of social and cognitive learning. I hope this game may help children learn from each other and pronounce words more efficiently.

fa-16-project13 week 6

This week we have to write about our experiment and what methods and procedures we are going to do. This week I did the an experiment on 3 children 2 with learning disabilities and 1 without any.  I did this experiment with 2 board games to see how well the children played and memorized. I wanted to see the behavior and how the children reciprocate off each other, how one child may make another childs learning experience better, i also wanted to see how well these children memorized letters, numbers, shapes, and colors while they played. In the end i tested the children to see how well they learned, and as a reward for this i gave the children ice cream and cake.

fa16-project 13 week 5

While doing research for my project this week, I felt like I needed to take my thesis into a different direction. Instead of seeing what grades we can get by playing video games before a test. I want to see how video games can help children who are apprehensive and who have iep issues perform better before taking an exam. Some children get scared or may need more time while taking an exam. Some studies showed that playing video games for these children will help them be at ease and concentrate better while taking an exam. There also have been many studies that have shown that video games may help adolescence stem performance. There are also different perceptions that teachers have when doing these studies. Some teachers find that depending on the game or where the child is at their developmental stage has an effect on how the child’s mind can be perceived .

There are many articles that I have read for this topic, and so many have different opinions, but the one thing that did seem to persistent is that a child attention span does get better with playing the video games. It can prove that since their attention span is better they are more alert when taking an exam.

Can playing video games before an exam improve your test score? In my research paper I will try to prove if game playing affects your score on an exam. The cognitive skill that would be relevant to this is your memory and visual skills. I have read that playing some video games may enhance your performance with certain things, for example I read that “Call of Duty” may improve your vision.  My hypothesis is just an assumption. I will test it out by doing research and read articles and also test it out with some students. In this analysis there can be 2 outcomes. One, a student improves his or her test score. Two, the student can get a bad grade after the exam. With stating this hypothesis I am going to have to do a thorough research.

Will playing a video improve my test score before an exam? With all these games that state that they may enhance our memory, develop better motor skills, and help with vision. It could be quite possible that video games may help us out before an exam. It might ease your anxiety and stress that most of us college students have before an exam. I was reading an article that states that video games have helped with stroke victims as well. After some articles stating that video games have helped with certain situations it made me question, can it help us get a better grade on exam.

The second outcome is that a person might not do well after playing a video game. Everyone has a different attention span, and sometimes is not able to hold in so much information. So playing a video game may hurt this person’s ability to get a good grade. Also I do feel depending on how much time is consumed playing this game before an exam will have impact as well. Some people get into these video games to much and it consumes their lives. So even if they did study for some hours, if they are consumed in this game they might have forgotten what they have studied.

In conclusion, to support my hypothesis I must have a lot of evidence to support this theory. Just reading articles on how much the brain is stimulated when a person plays video games put this thought in my head, how this may affect our grades. In my experience playing the video games for the assignments in class have also shown me that some of these games are educational and gets your mind thinking and going. So if these games can do that, why can’t they help you stimulate your brain before an exam? I also think the outcome may be different depending on the person and how their brain reacts to video games, and how these video games may affect their cognitive skills. Some people are visual and this may affect the way they memorize things because instead remember words they save the images they studied in their brains. I believe this also may have an effect on what their outcome might be after playing a game and taking a test. It will be a bit hard to determine since everyone’s attention span is different. In the end of my research I would like to determine if my statement was true or false.

fa16-project13-week 3

Hello my name is Solange Medina, and the game i chose to play this week is “Win the Whitehouse”. In this game you are allowed to choose whether you want to run as a democrat or republican, and run for presidency. This game isn’t complex at all, it is pretty straight forward. In the game you get discuss ways you can make the united states better, and discuss a lot topics that you put in campaign as your run for president. It is a single player game, but you run against a democrat or republican depending on which party you decide to run for. Both opponents go back and forth in different states to see who can win each state. The way you compete is by fundraising to make money so you can put polls in each state. With the money you earn you may also make appearances and discuss what each states concerns are and how you can help them. You also can use your funds to have an ad televised. The more you get a state to like you the more electoral votes you get, and the more states you get helps you win the game. You just have to make sure you understand each state issues and try to win them over by making sure your cover their concerns.

FA16-Project13-week 2

Week Two I played Save The Parks. This game is about how volunteers go and clean up our national parks. What is interesting The game is part of a larger effort ($5 million in grants) by American Express to get 1 million people to volunteer in national parks by 2017.  The game has 4 different characters, some you have to unlock. In Save the Park your character is a park volunteer. You accomplish volunteer tasks and get to see the effects on park conservation. In this game your visit national parks and beaches and do things such as clean up, and plant. The game encourages you to take the game into the real world and volunteer in a national park.

FA16-project 1

The game I played is called Dumb Ways To Die. The developers name is  McCann.

The game was fun, it was humorous as well. The objective of the game was not to allow the characters from each scene to die. In every scene there was a different scenario in which you as the player had to help the character not die. The game was somewhat educational as far with spelling and matching items. I felt the game was made to keep your mind alert, it would be a great game if you are trying to build your daily alertness. It was a bit hard I couldn’t get passed the second level. I feel like for someone who was a gamer that played mind challenging games, they would master this game.
