Project 11- Week 2

3rdworldfarmerThis game was pretty difficult to master. 3rd World Farmer deals with the hardships of hunger and poverty, and the many obstacle that get in the way of prosperity. The game gives you several options in which you must choose wisely and select items that can earn wages during that year. At the ending of the year, the game shows how much you’ve earned, also what was lost, and how you were affected by it. It throws in some natural disasters, and seasonal changes that are out of your control. These changes kill your livestock, drowns your crops, and also affects your health. The children suffer as well, because if there isn’t enough money, then you can’t send them to school and they lack education. After each year, there’s usually a show that offers to pay for the family to dance in their show. Usually its about $50.00. This can help feed your family, or help you escape your debt. I found it crazy, that they offered to sell your family member to work in the city, so that you can get money upfront. Usually the money is around $5-$10, which is not a lot of money, but can help plant crops or buy livestock in order to sell. This game is nearly impossible to win. I played it for about an hour and a half, trying to master it. The most time I survived was about 5 years. There were too many natural disasters, diseases, and sickness in the family. I tried different tactics in order to survive and each one failed. I believe this game was designed perfectly for what it was named for. It is really impossible to win that came, or to complete about 10 years into the game.

FA16-Project 6 week 3

For this week’s game I decided to play the game called Save the Park created by Schell Games. This game can be found at Games for Change at http://www.gamesforchange.org/play/save-the-park/.The purpose of this game is to teach players about pollution that happens in various national parks across the country. This game is designed to approach this very serious issue in a fun informative way. The players can choose between four different avatars that each possess different skills and duties. They are   also given the option to choose between four different backgrounds or playing field such as forest and deserts. Although this game is a single player game it requires skills that would typically be found in a two player game. The player needs to control two avatars simultaneously by switching between one of four lanes. To switch lanes the player must use both hands to either swipe up or down the screen. In each lane there are items that need to either be collected or avoided. Items that need to be collected are things like canned goods, empty food containers and power ups as these items help the players score points. If the player runs into items such as tree stumps, puddles of water, and animals they automatically lose their ability to score points. In order to complete each round the player must first achieve a certain number of points as well as a certain number of comboS. Combos happen when each avatar collects the desirable items at the same time as they are both moving at different speeds. The more condos that are collected the quicker the round is complete. Each avatar has a specific task or skills that need to be completed at each designated location. Once all for avatars have completed their task in each of the four parks then the game is complete. This game uses a linear narrative because there is only one way to get to the final destination. Although the characters have the ability to move up and down the screen the game constantly propels you forward and for this reason it limits your control. Overall this game has the ability to keep its players engaged because as the game progresses anticipation builds up. The player has an increased desire to do better each round especially when getting very close to the desired score. However, this game does require the player to be alert at all times and to master the somewhat difficult skill of controlling two avatars simultaneously while still following the rules of the game.

Syrian Journey: Choose your own escape route is a game that most players need to get the chance to stop and play. Even though there isn’t much seen action within the game but just reading the choices you have to make is enough to know. This game shows what choices immigrants have to make on a countless bases to get themselves and their family to better living standards. This game is an eye opener for players all over and it shouldn’t be taking lightly. This game is one of those games that’s has to make choices based on, how much money you have and the severity of your family . Syrian Journey is a game that more players should be aware of because this is real life for a lot of people in these conditions. More games like this should be out for players to get the opportunity to play, but of course there can be more character to player interaction.

FA16 Project 9- week 2

The game i choose this week is called Save The Park. The objective of the game is to bring awareness of maintaining the parks clean. The game has two players so is a character and the characters partner. The characters are competing against each other by who picks up more trash then get the most points. The games has rules which is to pick up the trash and also the game gives a heads up about to avoid the ponds and the tree logs during the game. Every character in the game are different as well as they have different characteristics and each of them have different superpowers. The game isn’t very intresting due to the character not being able to move around as much. The game is engaging the characters are trying to pick up trash as much as they can and also trying to pick up the trash at the same time as the partner that way the points will double and you get more points to unlock other stages in  the game.

FA16-Project20- Week 1

I played this Great game this week called Win the White house. In this game, I won the presidency the first time. The game was fun and informative.The game is trying to teach a good job about the process of becoming the president of the United States. The learning experience the game is trying to create for the player is an easy way to understand political knowledge. The dominant form of interaction the player has with the game is the ability to choose what important ideas to say in the game to win the presidential election. This supports the learning objective by knowing if we have what it takes to win the presidential election game. During the game, you have a lot of debate and raise money for campaigning. It was a great experience playing this game.

FA-Project 23-Week 1

Hello My name Aveiann Roland and I got the chance to play the game Dumb Ways to Die. I found the game to be very interesting because it gave me the chance to put my mind to use but in more of a faster pace. This isn’t one of those game that you get to take your time and read the directions. Everything is done in a fast pace and it only gets faster but of course once you play the stages a certain amount of times you begin to figure out what you have to do . In the mean while as you figure out what to do you already died a few time . This game really keeps you on your toes all the way through, no one board is the same as well. The game really gets your brain to start thinking and becoming more aware. Overall it’s a fun game to play it keeps you wanting to play again and again to get a better score.

FA16-Project 19

Hi my name is Shanaya Smith. This week I chose to play the game Nova’s Evolution Lab.  The objective of the game was to enhance the player’s cognitive skills and teach about the evolution of species. The game was designed as a puzzle. Overall it made me think about how species are related and what different species have in common. The game design was a puzzle. Learning to find the similarities between the species can be a difficult task as you progress in the game. I could only pass level four. IF THE TOPIC THE TOPIC OF EVOLUTION OR SCIENCE DOESN’T INTEREST YOU THEN YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO PLAY.

Project 5: Final Project

Game Title: McKinley High’s Home Coming

The game is trying to teach the player that the music they choose to listen has a major effect on their emotional health. The dominant form of interaction is player versus player. The cognitive process is affected the most by the game design. It teaches the player to make better decisions when it comes to music. There are 4 players involved in the game. They interact competitively. The objective of the game is to get to the party first and win the game. The rules of the game are to roll the dice and get a six in order to be able to come out your room. Once you are born you are able to make your way around the board in order to attend the party. Once all four of your pieces make it to the party, you win the game. The board is filled with songs from all types of artist. If you land on a song from Future, you become depressed and you have to go back to your room. If you get a double your able to roll again. The conflict is introduced from the beginning of the game. The player who rolls a six first obviously has the upper hand. The conflict is maintained by one player doing better than the others. It is resolved by a player winning. The game only allows the players to move one way on the board. It prevents more of a fun challenge for the players. The game ends by the players getting all four of their pieces to the party. The main characters in the game are Future, Migos, Kevin Gates, Desiigner, and Young Thug. You never want to land on any of their songs. The challenge that is presented is to stay clear of any song by Future, Migos, Kevin Gates, Desiigner, and Young Thug. Their songs cause people to become depressed and they can’t socialize with others. Therefore they have they go back to their room. The fictional world is called McKinley High School. The general premise of the game is The music that we listen to can affect our emotional health. The game is playful because it is competitive. The player that gets all of their pieces to the party first wins. Tensions are controlled by rolling the dice. The dice determines what piece you move to. Every player has an equal chance to win and is represented equally. The elements promote the players to choose better music. Music greatly influences our emotions. The wrong ones can cause us to become greatly depressed. Rolling a six or a double. A six brings you out the room and a double allows you to roll again. The game is fairly easy to learn. It only takes about two minutes to fully understand the game.

Project 7 – Week 8

In my Pre-Alpha Playtest, 6 subjects were used and they were recruited from Ocean Hill Collegiate Charter School (elementary age children). Besides the material used in the game, the data collected was presented through written observations; pen and paper. The game was presented by explaining the rules of the game to the subjects, in addition to a quick demonstration of how the game should be played. The conditions created included one subject being the “teacher” in the game while the other subjects were categorized as the “class”. The “teacher” was asked to teach the “class”; whereas, the “class” was to learn various dance moves being taught by the “teacher”. I collected data by observing the subjects and writing down the reactions/results of the experiment. The outcome of my experiment went fairly well. With the game’s original purpose to exercise memory (which it did), it also turns out that the game employs the subjects to engage on a social interactive level resulting in the development of a higher self-esteem or confidence levels.
